Sew me to look like her!

I'm so happy when this happens!
Remember that McCall's lace dress pattern by Phoebe Couture (6505) I told you about the other day and then I ordered on sale?

This pattern is ideal for lace, because it has minimal seams.
Look what I found

This is Lauren Conrad in her Note by Marchesa dress.
It looks identical to me!
Ok it's not, but it's very close and with the right lace choice you can make it.

The basic difference is the back.
The McCalls pattern has a deeper back, while the Marchesa dress doesn't.

Now I love it even more!

Without being certain about that,
I also think the Marchesa dress has an under-dress with spaghetti straps,
while the McCalls dress is one piece.

Happy sewing everyone

These are mine!

A childish statement to show my happiness about having these lovely patterns in my hands.
Oh I'm going to have so much fun sewing these lovely garments.

Lovely jacket by McCall's. I love its shape.

Beautiful basic dress, with pencil skirt.
I believe the black and white choice will make any woman look slimmer.
An ombre effect could be created too.

Trench coat!
I actually bought this one for the black coat option.
Lovely neck and sleeves.

Oh I wanted this dress pattern sooooo bad.
Look at the shape of it.
Prints will work good too, because of the few seems.

One more dress from Butterick.

You know I keep saying I don't have enough blouses...
so here is one more pattern...for the pattern stash, cause I haven't sewn anyone yet!

M5661

I hope I'll be able to sew this one during October.
I would first have to find out how to deal with a two sided fabric...
Any ideas? Especially about the hems...

M5913

And finally, my pride.
I fell in love with this dress. Vogue and Donna Karan of course!
I don't have any fabric that will do in my stash, so this calls for some fabric shopping!
As if I wouldn't anyway! ha ha

New patterns around

Last night in Athens, before I leave for my final trip this summer and since I'm all packed I've nothing better to do, but search the web for new patterns. I know I won't be able to sew even two of them, because I already have a long list, but it's nice to know what's around, right?

I found this Butterick Suzi Chin pattern really interesting. I love the draping.

Do you like this one?

B5672

The pattern is not so unique but I'm in love with that brush effect fabric.

Isn't this adorable? Oh I love Donna Karan designs so much! It's a two piece outfit.

V1259

I love this one too, by Vena Cava

V1258

I wish I had seen this one soon enough to sew it for summer vacations.
If you've read old posts of mine you will know I'm not a big fun of jumpsuits or even playsuits, but this one is lovely... next year!

I totally want this one

Linen would be wonderful for it. I wish I had it in my suitcase...

Ok it's time to go to sleep, I'm sailing tomorrow morning.

The summer style you can sew

Ok ok I know, to much talk and no sewing. I don't have time these days, please be patient with me. I am working on a straw clutch, I've made a muslin of a dress that won't fit no matter what (urg) and a dozen of projects on my mind.
I read this article that Cameron Diaz pulled out the coolest summer look. Actually her stylist Rachel Zoe. It's a shirt dress.

Nothing too special or fancy right? Isn't that what summer is all about? I love the look and her sandals. Maybe her sandals more! If you want to make it yours, it's easy. Choose your favorite shirt pattern and lenghten it or use one of BurdaStyle's patterns. For example pattern 117 from Burda 5/2011.

Or pattern 108 from Burda 1/2011. You can also download this one from here.

I prefer this one more. I think that pleat in the back will be a great feature with a belt. How about you?

I was only looking for a comic book

Yesterday I was looking for a comic book, with nice colourful illustrations, to use in a craft. I have to say I was disappointed. What's with all the massacres, and monsters, and vampires, and dark evil creatures? I couldn't find one page with nice illustrations in a gigantic bookstore. Pffff I guess I'll have to look on line.
I found this magazine instead. It's been so long since I've knitted. I have a half knitted scarf. Maybe I should pick it up on September to have it ready for winter. Knitting is a couch hobby for me. I mean, when I'm sewing I'm alone at my sewing station, deep in my thoughts. But when I'm knitting I want to be in front of the TV with the rest of the family. Of course mistakes will happen this way, but mistakes are to be corrected right?
I already have some magazines about knitting from the '90s and '00s, but I rarely see any hip knitting patterns. I have to say I was impressed with this magazine. You can take a look at its content here.
I'll give you a taste of my favourite designs.

I would definitely wear these dresses. As far as my knowledge on knitting goes, any girl could wear these dresses, cause they are knitted horizontally (I hope this makes sence) and they should flatter any body type.

I totally love the long blouse on the left. It's ideal for summer nights, don't you think?

I would also like to have these two blouses on the right. To be totally honest with you, I'm not up for knitting right now. But it's nice to have these options when ever I' ll feel like it. I'll definitely look for some winter issue some time.

Insprired by Dior

I walked by Dior's window a couple of hours ago and I saw this dress, that Leighton Meester wore at the screening of Screen Gems' "Country Strong".

It's a gorgeous dress from Dior's Spring 2011 Collection. You can't really see the detail in this photo. But I had the chance to observe it through the window! Have you ever heard of t-shirt yarn? Well this dress is made by the same method, sort off. Fabric strips, delicate silk chiffon, knitted. Yes knitted, in this fabulous dress. I believe we can see the purled side here. Don't tell me you don't feel tempted to try this out... I know you do!

The moment I got to a PC I went through Dior's Collection to find more pictures. This is what I got.

Beautiful mini crocheted skirt in nude colour, made of silk chiffon. The description says macrame, but I can see crocheting. Maybe it refers to the bottom of the skirt.

Sorry for the headless pic. I used Print Screen to capture the pictures, from the detailed view and that's how much my screen could fit.
Here's another view

And a more modest take of the idea

It's funny because I've been thinking about recycling some old t-shirts with the t-shirt yarn method these days. This Collection gives a whole new perspective...
Here's a very good tutorial about this method and here are some good ideas what to do with it :
rag or rag, placemat, pouch or even purse or tote and the list goes on and on.
I wonder though, with t- shirt yarn you don't bother with the edges of the yarn. But if you are dealing with silk chiffon...well you should. How could we manage that? Serge them? Too much thread in the yarn... leave then like that... well Dior didn't, but it would be an interesting experiment. Make loops out of the fabric strips? ...hours of work, many hours, lot's of hours. What do you think?
