Sneak peek -2-

If you are wondering how my knitting is going... well it is not! With the help from the fabulous ladies in www.ravelry.com, I soon found out that I had chosen the wrong pattern for my yarn, so I had to give up. I found another pattern, that seems to be the right one, but I haven't given it a try yet.  Thankfully I was able to undo what I had knit so far and save some yarn.

   So I started with this

went to this

and got back to this!

By the way, there is no such thing as fast knitting...while there is fast sewing!
I think crocheting can be faster too.

Sneak peek

I thought I should give a real knit project a try. Over the years I've knitted a few scarves, but this time I wanted a blouse or a cardigan. I saw this cute yarn on sale and I found a pattern of an (supposed to be) easy cardigan. This is the progress I made last night.

Once again I chose mohair. I love it's texture, but it's not the easier yarn to knit with, especially with my skills. If I make any mistakes they can't be undone, because it's impossible to undo any stitches. So far so good! The goal is to make this cardigan

from this book

Wish me luck!

I picked up knitting again

What, you don't believe me?
Here it is!

It is going to be a wrap.
Quite big indeed...

While my sewing machine was broken, I had to do something.
I tidied up almost everything.
Planned new projects.
Did a few drawing, like the one for my sofa bed cover.
But still it wasn't enough!

I remembered I had this half-finished wrap and I picked it up again.
I have to admit it took me a while to remember how to knit, but now I'm on fire!

I may have said this before, but knitting for me is a couch/tv hobby.
I mean I can't just start knitting.
I have to be relaxed and comfortable on my couch and watch (mostly listen to) tv.
Don't even ask about mistakes...
They tend to happen a lot, but this fluffy yarn hides them. Shhh!
Unfortunately if the mistake is big, I can't undo the knitting,
because this fluffy yarn will twist it's self and make a mess.
Anyway, just a 3rd of the wrap is left to be done.
It desperately has to be blocked afterwards, in order to see the lacy design.
I've never knit lace before... let's wait and see.

Insprired by Dior

I walked by Dior's window a couple of hours ago and I saw this dress, that Leighton Meester wore at the screening of Screen Gems' "Country Strong".

It's a gorgeous dress from Dior's Spring 2011 Collection. You can't really see the detail in this photo. But I had the chance to observe it through the window! Have you ever heard of t-shirt yarn? Well this dress is made by the same method, sort off. Fabric strips, delicate silk chiffon, knitted. Yes knitted, in this fabulous dress. I believe we can see the purled side here. Don't tell me you don't feel tempted to try this out... I know you do!

The moment I got to a PC I went through Dior's Collection to find more pictures. This is what I got.

Beautiful mini crocheted skirt in nude colour, made of silk chiffon. The description says macrame, but I can see crocheting. Maybe it refers to the bottom of the skirt.

Sorry for the headless pic. I used Print Screen to capture the pictures, from the detailed view and that's how much my screen could fit.
Here's another view

And a more modest take of the idea

It's funny because I've been thinking about recycling some old t-shirts with the t-shirt yarn method these days. This Collection gives a whole new perspective...
Here's a very good tutorial about this method and here are some good ideas what to do with it :
rag or rag, placemat, pouch or even purse or tote and the list goes on and on.
I wonder though, with t- shirt yarn you don't bother with the edges of the yarn. But if you are dealing with silk chiffon...well you should. How could we manage that? Serge them? Too much thread in the yarn... leave then like that... well Dior didn't, but it would be an interesting experiment. Make loops out of the fabric strips? ...hours of work, many hours, lot's of hours. What do you think?
